 SENATE RESOLUTION

8684

By Senators Riccelli, Hasegawa, Kauffman, Valdez, and Wagoner

WHEREAS, For more than 100 years, the Olympic and Paralympic movements have served as global celebrations of athletic excellence, determination, perseverance, and competition that transcend borders, languages, and culture; and

WHEREAS, The Olympic and Paralympic Games inspire people young and old to embrace the implausible and strive for greatness; and

WHEREAS, The Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games take place in Italy from February 6, 2026, to February 22, 2026, and the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games will take place in Italy from March 6, 2026, to March 15, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Thousands of athletes from more than 90 countries will gather in Milano Cortina to compete for victory while displaying sportsmanship and respect; and

WHEREAS, The 2026 Winter Games Team USA consists of more than 250 athletes, including eight Olympic athletes and one Paralympic athlete with ties to Washington state; and

WHEREAS, These nine Olympians will be competing at the highest level in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, para Nordic skiing, speedskating, short track speedskating, and curling;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington state Senate stand united in respect, admiration, and pride for the athletes of Team USA and their athletic accomplishments, sportsmanship, grace under pressure, goodwill toward other competitors, and commitment to excellence; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Washington state Senate recognize the hard work and dedication of Western Washington University Alumni Breezy Johnson, Katie Hensien of Redmond, Eunice Lee of Bellevue, Erin Martin of Seattle, Novie McCabe of Winthrop, Cooper McLeod of Burlington, Ben Richardson of Issaquah, Corrine Stoddard of Tacoma, and Luc Violette of Lake Stevens as they represent Washington state on Team USA at the 2026 Winter Games.
