WHEREAS, The Chimacum High School Marching Band has carried forward a deep and meaningful musical tradition in the Chimacum community, reflecting decades of student and faculty dedication, family support, and school pride; and
WHEREAS, The band represents a small rural high school in Jefferson County, yet consistently demonstrates that commitment, hard work, and teamwork can create opportunities far beyond what size alone might suggest; and
WHEREAS, The Chimacum High School Marching Band has been selected as Washington state's representative in the 2026 National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C., becoming the first and only band in the state chosen for this honor; and
WHEREAS, This rare national opportunity recognizes the Chimacum spirit of steady improvement, the courage to grow, and the pride students take in representing the Valley Near the Water; and
WHEREAS, The band's journey reflects daily effort, early rehearsals, learning new skills, supporting one another, and persisting through challenges, with students building confidence, leadership, and a strong sense of belonging along the way; and
WHEREAS, The Chimacum community has embraced the band's long-standing tradition, with families, alumni, boosters, and local partners coming together to encourage students, maintain a sustainable music program, and ensure all students who wish to participate can do so; and
WHEREAS, The band's story has resonated across Washington and beyond, illustrating how small schools cultivate resilience, creativity, and connection, and how music programs strengthen community identity and student engagement; and
WHEREAS, The state of Washington recognizes the value of school music programs in promoting student well-being, collaboration, and community pride, and applauds Chimacum's students for representing both their school and their state on a national stage;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State Senate congratulate the Chimacum High School Marching Band for its selection to perform in the 2026 National Independence Day Parade honoring the nation's 250th birthday; and
