SENATE BILL 6168

State of Washington

69th Legislature

2026 Regular Session

By Senators Boehnke and Dozier

Read first time 01/15/26. Referred to Committee on Environment, Energy & Technology.

AN ACT Relating to providing cost relief to Washingtonians by suspending certain requirements in the climate commitment act; adding a new section to chapter 70A.65 RCW; creating a new section; and declaring an emergency.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. (1) The legislature finds that Washington households are experiencing significant increases in the cost of living, including higher prices for gasoline and diesel fuel, utilities, groceries, and other essential goods and services. Moreover, higher fuel prices increase the price of several other goods and services by raising transportation and delivery costs.

(2) The legislature further finds that the costs of compliance with the climate commitment act are being passed on to Washingtonians by directly increasing fuel prices, and indirectly, by increasing the prices of other essential goods and services, upon which Washington households rely. These increased prices, along with the cost of compliance with other Washington programs and inflation, disproportionately affect working families, individuals on fixed incomes, rural residents, small businesses, and other vulnerable individuals.
