AN ACT Relating to teacher residency and apprenticeship programs; amending RCW 28B.102.110 , 28A.410.045 , 28A.410.220 , 28A.410.2211 , 28A.410.226 , 28A.410.250 , 28A.410.251 , 28A.410.252 , 28A.410.278 , 28A.410.290 , and 28A.660.005 ; reenacting and amending RCW 28A.410.270 ; adding new sections to chapter 28A.410 RCW; adding a new section to chapter 49.04 RCW; creating a new section; and providing an effective date.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 28A.410 RCW to read as follows:

(1) A teacher residency is a teacher preparation model that integrates a full year of collaborative hands-on classroom teaching with an experienced mentor with concurrent, targeted academic coursework, designed to develop effective, community-focused teachers. This collaborative model is offered by a public elementary or secondary school and a board-approved teacher preparation program.
