By Representatives Walsh, Chase, and Burnett

WHEREAS, The people of Washington State share a rich cultural history and a strong bond with the people of Iran and the more than 15,000 Iranian Americans living and working in Washington State; and

WHEREAS, Iranian Americans living and working in Washington have impacted our state and continue to further personal freedom, individual rights, and the democratic values that drew them here; and

WHEREAS, The people of Washington State recognize the Iranian immigrants who have come to Washington and otherwise built deep ties to our state for their innumerable contributions to our communities; and

WHEREAS, The people of Washington State enjoy a more vibrant heritage and economy from the cultivation of deep ties with Iranian American residents and the people of Iran; and

WHEREAS, Going forward, the people of Washington State hope to establish even stronger direct and mutually beneficial commercial connections and cultural exchanges between the people of Iran and the people of Washington State; and

WHEREAS, The people of Washington State recognize the fierce determination of advocates for personal freedom, individual rights, and democratic values in Iran and within Washington's Iranian American community;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State House of Representatives support advocates for personal freedom, individual rights, and democratic values in the Iranian American community in Washington and recognize the importance of a strong and enduring relationship between the people of Washington State—including Washington's Iranian American community—and the people of Iran.
