 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2026-4690

WHEREAS, Washington's dairy industry has been strong since before the state itself was founded, with cows brought over in 1838 and the state's first creamery opening in 1880 in Cheney; and

WHEREAS, Dairy farms are found across Washington state, with at least one in 27 of the 39 counties, providing quality, nutritious products to families across the state for generations; and

WHEREAS, Dairy is recognized by the United States Department of Agriculture's Dietary Guidelines as a major food group and an essential part of a balanced and healthy diet; and

WHEREAS, There are nearly 400 dairy farms and over 275,000 dairy cows in Washington state with 33 certified organic dairies in Washington; and

WHEREAS, Dairy is ranked as the third highest agricultural commodity produced in Washington state, making an impact of over $1,000,000,000 annually with Washington ranking eleventh nationally in total milk production; and

WHEREAS, Dairy Day at the legislature takes place on February 18, 2026, at the capitol campus and celebrates delicious Washington-produced dairy products;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State House of Representatives acknowledge and appreciate those who work on dairy farms throughout the state and who have been key contributors to the prosperity of our economy, and the character and well-being of our communities.
