WHEREAS, The Washington State House of Representatives recognize the significant cultural, economic, and unifying role that professional sports play in the lives of Washingtonians and the source of pride, inspiration, and community identity for fans provided by the Seattle Mariners; and

WHEREAS, During the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) season, Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh delivered one of the most extraordinary individual performances in the history of baseball, leading all of the MLB in home runs with 60, and leading the American League in runs batted in at 125; and

WHEREAS, Raleigh is only the seventh player in MLB history to reach 60 home runs in a season milestone; setting a new MLB record for most home runs by a catcher in a single season and the first catcher in MLB history to hit 20 or more home runs from both the left and right sides of the plate in a single season; recording 11 multi–home run games, tying an MLB record shared by some of the game's most legendary power hitters; and establishing a new MLB record for most home runs by a switch-hitter in a single season, surpassing the long-standing record previously set by Mickey Mantle in 1961; and

WHEREAS, Raleigh was selected to his first MLB All-Star Game and made history by becoming the first catcher and first switch-hitter to win the MLB Home Run Derby; and

WHEREAS, Raleigh was honored with the Silver Slugger Award as the top offensive catcher in the American League and received multiple Players' Choice Awards, including Player of the Year and American League Outstanding Player, as voted on by his fellow MLB players; and

WHEREAS, Raleigh's historic season played a pivotal role in helping the Seattle Mariners clinch the 2025 American League West Division Championship, the franchise's first division title since 2001, and propelled the Mariners to the American League Championship Series, marking one of the franchise's deepest postseason runs;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State House of Representatives honor Cal Raleigh for his historic contributions to professional baseball, his dedication to excellence, his historic 2025 season, and the pride he has brought to Mariners fans and communities throughout Washington State; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to Cal Raleigh, the Seattle Mariners organization, and Major League Baseball as an expression of the Washington State House of Representatives' appreciation and congratulations.
