Celebrating the life of Susan Bulkley Kellom.

Agreed to by the Senate, June 22, 2026

WHEREAS, Susan Bulkley Kellom, an honorable veteran, dedicated civic leader, passionate political activist, and beloved member of the Alexandria community, died on April 11, 2026; and

WHEREAS, born in Philadelphia, Susan Kellom graduated from Gettysburg College before serving her country for several years as a military police officer in the United States Army, becoming one of the first women to be selected for the military police advanced course; and

WHEREAS, Susan Kellom moved to Alexandria in the early 1980s and soon became an influential member of the community through her extensive involvement with a number of local civic and political organizations; and

WHEREAS, from 1997 to 2013, Susan Kellom was a member of the Alexandria Commission for Women, and she later continued to assist the commission as a member of the board of the Friends of the Alexandria Commission for Women; and

WHEREAS, Susan Kellom served on the Alexandria Youth Policy Commission from 1997 to 2003 and on the Alexandria Human Rights Commission for many years, including two terms as chair; and

WHEREAS, Susan Kellom served as chair of the Alexandria Democratic Party Committee from 1999 to 2010, and she guided and mentored many candidates and local leaders over the years; and
