SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 8

Commending Julius Shoulars.

WHEREAS, Julius Shoulars of Virginia Beach, a member of the Greatest Generation who served in defense of the nation during World War II, celebrated his 100th birthday in 2025; and

WHEREAS, born on April 19, 1925, Julius Shoulars endured the Great Depression in his youth and was a student at Maury High School in Norfolk when the United States entered World War II; and

WHEREAS, shortly after graduating from high school in 1943, Julius Shoulars received his draft notice and reported to Richmond, where he volunteered for the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, Julius Shoulars trained at Sampson U.S. Naval Training Station in New York and Camp Bradford in Hampton Roads; he mustered at Norfolk's Nansemond Hotel, which had been commandeered as the headquarters of Amphibious Training Command, United States Atlantic Fleet; and

WHEREAS, Julius Shoulars joined the 7th Naval Beach Battalion, an experimental unit designed to manage logistics, troop movements, and casualty evacuation during amphibious operations, and deployed to England in 1944; and
