HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2142

Commending Chiles Family Orchards.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 22, 2026

WHEREAS, Chiles Family Orchards in Crozet set a Guinness World Record for the heaviest peach, which was verified on September 10, 2025, with a peach weighing 828.5 grams, or approximately one pound 13 ounces; and

WHEREAS, Chiles Family Orchards, which has been in operation for over a century, first as a commercial production and later as a collective of “pick your own” ventures, is led today by owner and fifth-generation grower Henry Chiles; and

WHEREAS, by offering the community local, fresh produce and an opportunity to engage with the horticultural process, Chiles Family Orchards has become a beloved institution in the Greater Charlottesville community; and

WHEREAS, Chiles Family Orchards' world's heaviest peach was the product of an unusual early April frost, which left fewer fruit for each tree to support, and a wet spring and early summer, which helped generate exceptionally large fruit; and

WHEREAS, Chiles Family Orchards is producing a replica of its world-record-setting fruit to display at its orchards, giving patrons the opportunity to appreciate and celebrate this extraordinary agricultural feat; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Chiles Family Orchards hereby be commended for setting the Guinness World Record for the heaviest peach; and, be it
