SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1591

Whereas, the members of the Missouri Senate feel it is altogether right and proper to pause from time

to time to recognize milestones in the legislative history of this great country; and

Whereas, the members now pause to observe the fiftieth anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers

Act, an Act passed by a unanimous vote in the United States Senate and signed by President Lyndon B.

Johnson on October 2, 1968; and

Whereas, in the Act, Congress sought to protect outstanding rivers that “shall be preserved in

freeflowing condition, and that they and their immediate environments shall be protected for the benefit and

enjoyment of present and future generations”; and
